First Baptist Church in Waldorf, Maryland asked us to submit a bid to provide new stained glass windows for their new sanctuary. Photo 1 shows the proposal drawing that we submitted while photo 2 shows the finished windows. People often ask “how many times did you have to drive to Maryland for that project?” Our answer is “three times”. We drove up to meet with the committee and see their blueprints. We drove up when we installed the frames and exterior glass. Then we made a final trip to install the stained glass windows. All the other approvals were conducted by fax, mail or e-mail. When we suggested colors, we took photos of large sheets of glass which we then emailed (photos 4 and 5). As we were cutting the glass, we took photos of the glass on a table (photo 6). As soon as a panel was built, we took a photo of it with light behind it (photo 7). As the windows were completed, they were stacked to await delivery (photos 8 and 9).

Each window had a different Bible verse. When we include a Bible verse, the customer has complete approval. The customer selects the text and translation. We type it up with the exact font and show the exact size and shape of the piece of glass. The customer has to approve the spelling and punctuation. This process usually takes two tries before both parties give their final approval. Then we silk screen the paint onto the glass and fire it in a kiln (photo 10). Once fired, the paint is permanently fused into the glass.
